Massive Dust Wall Rolls into Texas Panhandle
Reminiscent of the Great Depression’s Dust Bowl, a huge dust wall rolled into towns in the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles Tuesday night.
ABC 7 Amarillo reported the rare phenomenon and attributed it to certain weather action that was moving in from Colorado. The high winds “brought in dust and dirt” and swept through the northern and western regions of the states, alarming residents.
The photo above and the featured image is from Stratford, Texas. The photo below is from Boise City, Oklahoma.
The storm brought with it “winds [gusting] more than 60 mph…and according to the National Weather Service, threw dust about 2,000 feet in the air.” While no injuries were reported, people posted their pictures all over the internet, showing family and friends via social media the scenes out of their own windows.
These photographs look eerily similar to what the Dust Bowl in the 1930s looked like in Depression-era America. As frightening as that huge wall is, it’s a reminder that Mother Nature is one incredible force to be reckoned with.
