Air Force Plane Crash Leaves One Dead and One Wounded in Del Rio

By  |

Two Air Force pilots were in an accident this week after taking off from the Laughlin Air Force Base, close to Del Rio, Texas (near the Texas border, about 160 miles west of San Antonio) in a  T-38 Talon, otherwise known as “…a twin-engine supersonic jet  that is primarily used for training.” The crash took place on Monday around 4:00 p.m., and at this time, the Washington Post reports that the Air Force has not released the name of the two pilots. Tragically, one passed away while the other was injured.

The Air Force will launch an investigation to determine what went wrong in the sky. But for now, Col. Michelle Pryor, 47th Flying Training Wing vice commander, said, “Our biggest priority at this time is caring for the family and friends of our Airmen. We are a close-knit family, and when a tragedy like this occurs every member of the U.S. Armed Forces feels it.”

According to the news, witnesses say that one pilot ejected from the aircraft and was seen floating down to the ground. KENS 5 reports that the wounded pilot was taken to the Val Verde Regional Medical Center, but at this time, there are no current reports on their physical state.
