On December 9, Graydon Morris did a fantastic job representing the Lone Star State when he managed to grab the second place spot in the 39th Annual Footlocker Cross Country Championships National Finals held in San Diego, California. Morris said his only goal was to finish in the top 10, and while he did accomplish that, he exceeded even his own expectations.

For Morris, performing well is not a strange concept. Earlier this year the Aledo, Texas sophomore won gold at the state cross-country meet for Class 5A after completing a three mile run with a time of 14:58:90. Last week, he bested several elite runners with a time of 15:23:3 at the national meet. To see Morris’ post-run interview, watch the video below.

This was Morris’ second year competing in Foot Locker’s National competition. Last year, he finished 34th overall, making this year’s placing even more astounding. Morris said the experience he gained last year helped him build confidence for this year’s race.

“I think the pressure that’s put on you here, it’s kind of overwhelming the first year. So, to come back the second year I wasn’t nearly as nervous as I was last year. I was more confident going into the race,” Morris said.

That confidence definitely paid off. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for this amazing athlete. Congratulations, Graydon!
