Here in Texas, we take our food quite seriously. We know that many of you out there from other states will claim that you do as well, and you have every right to. But, we have pictorial proof of our penchant for and proclivity towards pleasant meals. We tend to take things to the next level if you will. Here are just three examples of amazing Texas meals you have to see (and taste) to believe.

1. Chicken Fried Steak

We not only make this meal look and taste stellar, we invented it! In fact, the town of Lamesa in West Texas (60 miles south of Lubbock) holds an annual Chicken-Fried Steak Festival in April (you’ll want to plan for that) honoring their claim to fame of being the rightful birthplace of this delicious delicacy. It comes complete with a Friday night chicken-fried steak cook-off which you most definitely won’t want to miss!

2. Steak – Done Any Way You Can Imagine!

Texas. Cattle. Beef. Any of this ringing a bell with you? We love the cattle industry, and we most definitely love the beef that we produce. And, what good is producing it if you don’t know how to properly prepare it? So, it stands to reason, here in Texas we have a long-standing reputation for knowing how to cook steak (all cuts, all kinds) to perfection!

3. Tex-Mex – Hey, We’re Famous for It!

A fusion of American and Mexican cuisine, Tex-Mex food is derived from the culinary concoctions of the Tejanos (defined as “…residents of the state of Texas who are culturally descended from the original Spanish-speaking settlers of Texas and northern Mexico.”) The name itself is also a fusion of sorts, taken as the nickname for the Texas Mexican Railway. As a mixture of traditional Spanish and Mexican foods, it blends the best of both to make dishes that are unbelievable at their best. And, we do it all!
