The American Heart Association Set Up a ‘Scream Booth’ in Downtown Austin

On Wednesday, KXAN reports that the American Heart Association set up a soundproof “scream booth” in downtown Austin, Texas near Jo’s Coffee on 2nd Street. “Step in the booth, identify your stressors and scream out your frustrations for a quick burst of stress relief and fun,” they explained in a press release.

On the American Heart Association – Austin Facebook page, they featured a sample video of what participants saw on the screen when they entered the booth. Frustrated Austinites were asked to voice what stresses them out the most such as politics, work, or even the never-ending construction and traffic on MoPac. Then, the word popped up on the screen along with a three-second countdown to muster up all of one’s anger to let out. When the yelling starts, the chosen word seems to burst from the power of the participant’s scream.

With the booth, the American Heart Association hopes to remind people that they need to work out their frustrations in a harmless way so the weight of stressors does not negatively impact one’s heart and overall health. They’re encouraging Americans to sign up for their Healthy For Good program to learn more about how to deal with stress.
