Army Vet Requests Texts From Strangers in His Dying Days
Lee Hernandez, an Army veteran, is requesting text messages as his dying wish. According to KSLA, the 43-year-old man is suffering from an unknown illness, but he’s already had three brain surgeries and his health continues to worsen. Though he’s in terrible pain, he enjoys hearing from people, so his wife reached out to a support group. A member posted Hernandez’s story on the Arizona Veterans Forum on Facebook, and people were eager to help.
At first, Hernandez was accepting phone calls, but the response has been so overwhelming that his voicemail is now full! In fact, the woman who originally posted Hernandez’s number, Michelle Fawbush, has updated her post asking people to no longer share the number since he’s received such an incredible amount of messages. A commenter relayed that he’s gotten over 100,000 texts. “As you can imagine, it is ringing non-stop,” Fawbush told KSLA. “As an Army wife, I know that, if my husband was in the situation, I would love people sending love.”
Obviously, Hernandez won’t be able to reply to all of the messages, but they’re greatly appreciated. His wife reads them aloud to him since he’s blind, and she is able to respond to some, as well.
