Years ago my husband’s aunt sent us a box of these delicious cookies for the holidays. My kids were young teens at the time, we opened the box and with no self-restraint, the three of us gobbled every last crumb. No shame. Aunt had to make her nephew a box special for him. And every year my son, now an Air Force Colonel, still requests his wife make this old family recipe.
Ingredients:
1 box yellow cake mix
1 egg
4 ½ ounces of Cool Whip
Bag of powdered sugar
1 jar maraschino cherries
This is a wonderful cookie recipe to make with the kiddos. It’s messy, but easy. Be sure to add the ingredients in the order and manner specified below. Give or take one or two, dependent on how large you make your cookies, this recipe will yield three dozen cookies.
Directions:
Mix cake mix with Cool Whip. Then add one beaten egg ‘til thoroughly combined. No need for an electric mixer with these cookies. Spoon by teaspoon full and roll into balls and roll balls in powdered sugar. Allow plenty of room on baking sheet, they don’t like close company!
Bake 12 to 14 minutes at 350 degrees. My oven always turns out a perfectly done cookie at 12 minutes. Remove from oven and press ½ cherry into top of cookie before removing from cookie sheet. Then place on cookie rack to cool.
I hope these will become one of your family’s favorites too. Merry Christmas!
