Austin Airport to Offer Direct Flights to the Dominican Republic
Even though Austin is the capital of Texas, the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport certainly doesn’t boast as many direct flights as compared to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport and DFW’s International Airport. But as Austin grows, so does its ability to reach the rest of the world. KVUE reports that starting in 2018, nonstop flights will be available connecting ABIA and Punta Cana International Airport in the Dominican Republic.
The 150-seat Swift Air flights will “operate once per week from May 28 to August 6, 2018. Flights will leave Austin on Mondays at 7 a.m. and arrive in Punta Cana at 12:20 p.m. Flights from Punta Cana to Austin will depart on Sundays at 2 p.m. and arrive in Austin at 5:45 p.m.”
Currently, flights to Punta Cana take roughly 7 hours and 30 minutes to complete from Austin since they require layovers in major airport hubs like Houston and Atlanta. With no stops, the flight should be cut down to around 4 hours in length.
KXAN points out that tickets are already on sale even though the flights won’t start for another year. If you want to plan ahead for your trip to the Dominican Republic, check out Vacation Express. They also have vacation packages available.
