Faith-based, non-profit company Mobile Loaves & Fishes is developing a communal Austin homeless neighborhood called Community First! in central Texas. Located next to Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park, the Austin homeless village will provide tiny homes and shared facilities for the chronically homeless.

Mobile Loaves & Fishes describe Community First! as a “27-acre master-planned community that will provide affordable, sustainable housing and a supportive community for the disabled, chronically homeless in Central Texas.”

The community isn’t just for sleeping, though. It also boasts a medical center (run by volunteer nurses), dog park, farm animals like chickens, a bed and breakfast, chapel and outdoor movie theatre. Each resident of Community First! is expected to do a specific job in order to keep the community operating and give back.
