KVUE reports that determined it’s good to be a dog living in Austin, TX. To determine the best city that’s gone to the dogs, the website looked at laws in the state, the amount of restaurants and parks where pups can join their owners, and the prevalence of no-kill shelters. (The laws considered “range from requiring dogs to be on chains to making it illegal to own specific dog breeds, typically those deemed to be aggressive,” the news explains.)

Austin boasts “167 restaurants, 15 dog parks, five hiking trails, three tours and seven pet-friendly stores,” so it’s easy to see how it’s a fine place to live for a pooch. Local Austin blogs are always updating readers on dog-friendly activities, as well. Austin Eater recently posted a top 10 list of bars and restaurants that allow dogs, and local favorites that like Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden, Moontower Saloon, and The ABGB made the cut. If you head to any of those establishments with your pooch, you’re sure to find people who will want to shower your dog with pets and praise.

According to the research, Phoenix, Arizona comes in second place and New York, New York falls in third. No other Texas cities cracked the top 10.
