The Bandera Natural History Museum, here in the Texas Hill Country, is both an international education showcase and art exhibit that features life-sized dinosaur replicas, ranging from 200 pounds to one ton! Home to replicas of not only dinosaurs but also Ice Age animals, the facility also houses interactive and educational play stations on its eight-acre grounds, once again bringing the Hill Country to life with species which have been extinct for centuries.

The groundbreaking for the facility took place in 2015, and their grand opening was scheduled to happen for June of 2016. One year after these behemoths of yesteryear were hoisted by crane onto park grounds, visitors continue to stroll amongst the life-sized menagerie of Jurassic proportions, learning as they go. Featuring dinosaur models that were designed and developed by Jose Edid, an artist who worked on the movie sets of “Jurassic Park” and “Night at the Museum,” one of the more interesting pieces brought to Bandera is rumored to be a skeleton of a Torosaurus. It was used in the latter of the two films.

Also available on site, the Hill Country Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist propose to landscape with native Texas plants in efforts to attract butterflies and birds for conservation potential. Also, the more than 100 full-body animal mounts positioned in hand-painted dioramas at the Bandera Natural History Museum are complemented in another portion of the museum with an international collection of art pieces on display, reflecting its mission with a broader lens. Visit the museum’s website for more information regarding their exciting displays and family-friendly activities.
