Get Some Good Ole Barbeque at Harmon’s in Cibolo

Harmon’s BBQ, found at 102 S. Main Street in Cibolo, is in an antiqued storefront. Since the restaurant opened in 2001, it has been highlighted in the region and won multiple BBQ competition awards. Also named a 2012 San Antonio Express-News Critic’s Choice Award Winner for city area best BBQ, Harmon’s BBQ is open at 11 a.m., seven days a week. Meats served include brisket, chicken, sausage, pork, turkey, and ribs. Catering is also available from this establishment.

A spacious front room features the order counter, seating for smaller parties, and two big screens mounted to the wall for sports action. Wall-hung rusted signs, personal photographs, and picnic tables give the feel of being in the backyard of the neighborhood grill master. A large back room boasts long tables for larger groups, a projection screen, and a section to one side for live music to play. Take note there is no table service here. Order at the counter and keep an ear out for your number to be called.

Portions are sustainable. Don’t expect a hamburger bun to hold the chopped brisket sandwich though. Only a hoagie roll will contain this serving – especially with the addition of pickles and onions from the self-serve condiment bar. Their sliced brisket features perfectly blackened ends and the taste of a long night of slow cooking; it was on the drier side of the juicy scale but not dried out. The potato salad does have eggs but the tastes of all the ingredients combine without one dominant flavor, with a consistency just right to pair with a side of beans. The sauce is provided with the sandwich; it has a twinge of sweetness folded into an overall flavor which evokes carefully smoked barbeque. It is not a thick sauce but it is not water-thin either. Bottles are also on the table to add to your plate. Have dinner at Harmon’s BBQ and then dance it off at McQueeney Hall next Saturday night!
