Texans prefer to do things their own way, and Ground Hog Day is no exception. In fact, Bee Cave Bob is Texas’ own weather predicting critter, and he put Punxsutawney Phil in his place this week by predicting Spring is on the way.

Bee Cave, just outside of Austin, recently hosted Armadillo Day as their answer to the oft-maligned tradition of the North. Mr. Busby took some shots at his Northern counterpart during the celebration saying, “We don’t need a little, skinny rat, varmint” predicting the weather for Texans.

After Punxsutawney Phil made his prediction of 6 more weeks of winter, Bee Cave Bob the Armadillo and local “Weatherologist” Rusty Busby made their call. Directly contradicting Phil, Busby informed the crowd following the “catastrophic winter of 2017” when we experienced two nights in a row of freezing weather, “we’re ready for some Spring.”

We’ll see who is right, but it looks like Texas has their own weather-critter now, and this armadillo is here to stay.
