Thousands of Bees Wreaked Havoc on a Wal Mart Parking Lot

We know to watch out for criminal activity in parking lots, but no one ever warned us about bees! On Saturday, in southeast Oklahoma City, a Wal-Mart parking lot became a bee war zone when somewhere between 30,000 and 60,000 bees escaped from a hive.

Apparently, the parking lot was the arranged meeting place between a hive owner selling three hives and a buyer. Very unfortunately, the already agitated bees who had been driven to this location were somehow allowed to be released from their homes. The insects then flew wildly at unsuspecting Wal-Mart shoppers around 10:30 in the morning.

Three adults were stung so badly they needed to go to the hospital. KXAN reports that one person is in good condition while the other two are in serious condition. There’s no word on whether or not these people have a bee allergy.

Oklahoma City Fire Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson said that beekeepers were asked to help with the scene to get the bees calm and contain them. What a strange call that must have been for the beekeepers, but it’s fortunate that they were able to respond to the scene and restore some order in the chaotic parking lot.
