Woman Gives Birth Mid-Flight on the Way to Dallas

If you think that planes are inherently stressful with their cramped quarters, bumpy rides, and uncomfortable seats, imagine adding giving birth to the equation. For Cristina Penton that became a reality on a Spirit Airlines flight from Fort Lauderdale to Dallas where she suddenly went into labor on board.

Penton, who was on the plane with her two other children, was only 36-weeks pregnant, but she knew right after takeoff that something wasn’t right. She told flight attendants, and the pilot made plans to divert the flight to New Orleans. But, as the Washington Post reports, “within about 50 minutes after the first contraction, Penton’s water broke.” The baby was not going to wait on a landing!

CBS DFW says that registered nurse Rhondula Green stepped in to help with the quick birth. She said, “He just popped out — literally. So, we just kind of like caught him. I was kind of nervous initially, but when I saw the baby come in the nerves were gone!”

Even though the situation was stressful and unconventional it turned into a joyous occasion. Shelley Hedgecock Starks filmed the relief on everyone’s faces that the baby was perfectly fine. “This is so special,” Starks said as the nurse tied off the umbilical cord. The Pentons were taken to a hospital in New Orleans to recover.

We just experienced the birth of a baby in the seat in front of us on our flight and had to do an emergency landing in New Orleans we visited with the doctor that delivered the baby while waiting to get on our flight!?❤ posted on YouTube here's the link https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IklxVvpORiY also for exclusive extra videos of the baby after birth go to that link and find the video on the channel. ☆ Please contact licensing@storyful.com for new stories.
