Blue Bell announced this week that two of their favorite holiday flavors are now available in grocery stores ahead of the Christmas season. Peppermint and Peppermint Bark will be available through the holiday season for those who enjoy a minty ice cream this time of the year.

According to Blue Bell, Peppermint is a refreshing peppermint ice cream sprinkled with peppermint candy pieces. Peppermint Bark, a smooth mint ice cream loaded with luscious dark chocolate chunks and tasty white chocolate chunks, contains crushed peppermint candies. It doesn’t get much cooler than that! Or does it? Blue Bell hints that there are other new holidays flavors on the way as well.

Two years after a listeria outbreak halted production at Blue Bell, this past July, the company announced the reopening of an observation deck at the Brenham factory that allows consumers to watch part of the ice cream-making process at a plant that received a major overhaul.

The observation deck had been the last stop on a ticketed tour of the company’s main plant. Now, consumers can stop by the observation area for free and just watch.”It has been a popular attraction,” said spokeswoman Jenny Van Dorf.

“At this time, there is no cost to our visitors. It is a self-guided tour that overlooks one of our production areas. Visitors can see how our products are made like half gallons, pints, three gallons, and three-ounce cups. With the summer crowds, we’ve seen several hundred each day,” Van Dorf said. After the recall, the company “had not resumed any type of tour until just a few weeks ago.”

In holiday seasons-past, Blue Bell has had Christmas-inspired flavors such as “Christmas Cookies” and “Hot Chocolate” ice cream, which have become as much a part of the Christmas traditions of many Texas families as Santa Claus and tamales.
