Donuts are hard to beat. Fried, covered in sugar and served with a hot beverage or cold milk. While donuts are not a cure-all, they can often brighten the dreariest of days. Texans, and specifically the Hill Country, have no shortage of stellar option for donuts to please our palates. So, any newcomer had better be ready for stiff competition. Bougie’s Donuts, in Sunset Valley, Texas (a pleasant dot of city-scape inside Austin) lives up to high donut expectations. Open just one year, this small shop on Brodie Lane has already made big waves among doughnut fans. Lines are steady but quick and end at a window full of sweet pastries.

Tried-and-true favorites abound like donut holes, glazed, and sprinkles, but are accompanied by more unusual varieties like Creme Brulee and other weekly specials. Bougie’s has also partnered with the Peached Tortilla, another Austin favorite, for the Peached Tortilla donut topped with savory meat. This partnership, but also Bougie’s overall, embodies the spirit of Austin and small business.

Donuts unique and delicious enough to be competitive in Austin are a surefire win. Better yet, dog fans, Bougie’s was named after the owner’s Boxer dog, Bougie. While dogs are not allowed in the restaurant, a few dog-friendly tables line the sidewalk outside the storefront.

If you haven’t already, make Bougie’s in Sunset Valley your next stop for donuts. We’ve already made it a tradition!
