Breaking: Stabbing at UT Austin Leaves 1 Dead, Several Injured

Reports have come in identifying that at least one person has been killed in a stabbing incident that took place at University of Texas at Austin’s campus. EMS workers have reported attending to an emergency call regarding a stabbing at approximately 2:00 p.m. today, with one person declared dead at the scene and three additional victims sent to nearby hospitals.

According to the Austin-Travis County EMS Twitter feed, paramedics responded to the stabbing in the vicinity of the school’s Gregory Gym. A KXAN intern has identified that the gym has been evacuated effective 2:10 p.m. today.

Austin police have identified that one person is currently in custody and they’re assisting university police in the 2100 block of Speedway (near Gregory Gym). EMS from Austin-Travis County had earlier responded to reports of multiple people stabbed. University officials have not been able to confirm what events transpired, however one adult male was transported University Medical Center Brackenridge in unknown condition. There is presently no immediate threat to campus, however students have been told to avoid the area. Austin-Travis County EMS have reported that the three additional victims have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. As further details become apparent, we’ll continue to update the story.
