Look no further than Burnet for fun weekend plans! This weekend, April 8-11, 2016, downtown Burnet will be home to the 33rd Annual Bluebonnet Festival, which attracts an average of 30,000 visitors each year.
Festival-goers will be able to take in traditional activities, such as the Mighty Thomas Carnival, which will be open from Thursday night to Sunday. There will also be arts and crafts vendors, a scholarship pageant, a Saturday morning parade, and a 5K and 10K run, and of course, a wide selection of delicious food vendors. However, what make the Bluebonnet Festival arguably one of the most exciting festivals in Texas are its unique activities, of which there is no shortage.
On Friday and Saturday, visit the Highland Lakes Birding and Wildflower Show, where you can get a map to the most flower-covered areas.
Literacy Highland Lakes, an area organization that offers adult education programs, will be hosting their annual Rubber Ducky Race in the river. Hundreds of rubber ducks will “race” down the river to raise money for area education.
The weekend will also feature a pet parade, a destruction derby, and the Gary Wideman State Farm Insurance Wiener Dog Race.
If old-fashioned Texas is more your style, don’t miss the Burnet Gunfighters Shoot-Out at Old Town, where spectators get a glimpse into life in the Wild West era of Texas. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the Lakes Area Rod and Classic Car Display.
There will also be plenty of activities just for the kids. From sack races and spoon races, to a bicycle decorating contest, the Bluebonnet Festival offers fun for the whole family.
Of course, what is a festival without live music? A variety of local and well-known artists will be featured in the evenings.
