Cashier Displays Kindness When Helping Out an Elderly Woman

By  |

From November to December it seems like everyone’s patience melts away. Sometimes we need a reminder to show kindness to one another to make shopping a more pleasant experience for everyone.

Target employee Ishmael Gilbert patiently helped an elderly customer with counting out their money to pay for their items completely in change. The exchange was taking a while and the mom with two kids in tow behind the elderly customer felt rather irritated at first. Then she stepped back and watched the sweetness of the scene and used it to tell her kids that patience is a virtue. She snapped a photo and posted the story to Facebook.

Even though the gesture was small, the act of compassion snowballed into a celebration of kindness. The photo went viral, a mom found a teaching moment, the story made the news in Indianapolis, and Ishmael’s mother felt as if she received some confirmation that she had done well in raising her son.

Amiee Smith Gilbert took to Facebook to spread her joy. “As I looked at my son I was proud to be his mother and know that my hard work and effort was worth it…I have always tried my best to raise my children to respect everyone no matter their race, age or gender,” she reflected.

Sometimes a little can go a long way.
