On March 25, 2020, Governor Greg Abbott made an announcement that the state had received a grant of $16.2 million from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Administration for Community Living (ACL). It was designed to assist communities in the provision of meals to seniors. This week, it was stated that seniors in Central Texas who are under stay-at-home orders now qualify to receive meals under a portion of this grant.

Over $304,000 was received by the Central Texas Area Agency on Aging as part of the grant designed to help feed seniors in the area who have been impacted by the COVID-19 and Coronavirus pandemic. Many have been under shelter-in-place orders. The grant made to the state of Texas was part of a $250 million expenditure which was authorized by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. The act was signed into law in March by the President.
