Fredericksburg, Texas, brings German traditions and beautiful holiday decorations to the Texas Hill Country. The entertainment and ambience lasts all December and through New Year’s. This season’s celebration began the Friday after Thanksgiving with the annual lighting of the 30-foot community Christmas tree and 26-foot German Christmas Pyramid.

The stunning Marktplatz has everything from shopping to ice skating. Come try out some figure eights at the outdoor ice skating rink or Eisbahn. The rink is open all through December till the New Year. If skating isn’t your thing, Fredericksburg also offers over 150 shops, art galleries, and boutiques. Or check out the holiday wine-trail and delicious local cuisine, along with the many special events during the holiday season.

Stroll down the beautifully-lit, postcard-perfect Main Street. You can explore the Texas Hill Country Regional Christmas Lighting Trail admiring the lights and natural beauty of the landscape. Nearby Luckenbach features plenty of great live Christmas music. The Luckenbach Christmas Ball with Gary P. Nunn takes place Saturday, December 19.

Attend the Fredericksburg Theater Company’s “A Tuna Christmas” weekends from December 11, through December 20 for lots of Christmas cheer and laughter. Fredericksburg Trade Days presents the perfect opportunity to check off some items on that shopping list. The event lasts from Friday, December 18, through Sunday, December 20 and features over 350 vendors.

The holiday fun doesn’t end on December 25 either. Come celebrate the German tradition of Zweite Weihnachten or “Second Christmas” on day after Christmas. There’ll be plenty of delicious food, live music, and great friends at the Gillespie County Historical Society Social Hall.
