Christmas Light Display Benefitting Young Boerne Cancer Patient

By  |

A display of Christmas lights in Boerne are brightening the life of a little girl who was recently diagnosed with cancer. For almost a decade, a holiday light show complete and in sync with Christmas music has been set up by the Jones family. Mandy and Michael Jones and their kids, Micah and Mykala have this year produced a six-song show coupled with amazing twinkling lights at 208 Wollschlaeger Drive in Boerne, and their goal is to help those in need.

This year, 4-year-old leukemia patient, Laila Bull is the focus of the Jones’ fun philanthropy. Laila was diagnosed in October of this year, and her mother is a former classmate of Mandy Jones. After reading the Bull family Facebook posts about Laila’s first steps towards cancer recovery, the Jones chose to do their part.

In an interview with My San Antonio, Mandy said, “We knew that’s who we would help. Childhood cancer really touches my heart and I wanted to bring awareness.” With 240 programming hours, 2+ months of set-up, and a broken foot that Michael sustained in the process, the Jones finished their 2016 display and are welcoming visitors to stop, admire, and perhaps leave donations for Laila Bull. To date, they have raised approximately $300 as well as some gift cards, which will all be contributed to the Bull family. Over the course of the coming days, when school is out and more people are off work, the Jones anticipate an increase in visitors, and with that, they remain hopeful for more support for Laila.

Over the past 9 years, the Jones have managed to raise approximately $15,000 dollars benefitting other families that have gone through hard times, The Water Project, and Samaritan’s Purse. “We just do it for the joy,” Mandy said, and they do a fantastic job at that!
