Every year, Forbes releases a list of America’s Best Employers. In the 2016 list, the City of Austin and its subsequent government services ranked 22nd of the 500 companies in the lineup.

In the statistics released this week, Forbes released its ever-growing list of the best employers in America. Sitting between Harley Davidson at no. 21 and Cummins at no. 23, the City of Austin is the only city government to rank in the top 30. So how is this list calculated?

Forbes worked with Statista, an online statistic provider, to ask “more than 30,000 U.S. workers employed by companies with more than 5,000 staff members to determine, on a scale of zero to 10, how likely they were to recommend their employer to someone else. Further, how did they feel about other employers in their industry?”

The 25 industries and 500 companies chosen paint an accurate portrait of what industries are currently rising in America, including what companies are reaching their stride. While Marathon Petroleum reached the no. 1 spot this year, United Services Auto Association of San Antonio, Texas, reached the fifth spot in the list.

It’s awesome to see that city, especially one of our beloved own, makes the top 30 in terms of America’s best employers as city governments are always interesting political playgrounds.
