On Saturday, August 19, North Texas animal shelters will partner with media such as NBC DFW to find homes for adoptable pets. Although other fees and participating shelter times may vary, the adoption fees for these pets will be waived. Nationally, close to 700 shelters will be replicating this pet adoption initiative, and if you’re interested in participating, you can locate a participating shelter nearest you through ClearTheShelters.com. Thanks to these efforts in 2016, more than 50,000 pets found their forever families.

Now in its fourth year, North Texas shelters are partnering with NBCUniversal-owned stations and affiliates for their #cleartheshelters event also bringing together nonprofit organizations, counties, and cities to support a unified campaign to find homes for these animals. NBC DFW posted a hilarious supporting video for the event on their Facebook page, identifying the date, time, and the obvious (we think at least) reactions that future family pets will have. In 2016, statistics show that the event netted more than 6,000 pets a loving home in North Texas alone.

In 2015, the first nationwide event took place and saw the placement of more than 20,000 pets through approximately 400 animal shelters across America. Last year’s Clear the Shelters event had 60 North Texas shelters participating, and this year looks to be just as productive and possibly equally successful. If you’re looking to give a home to a shelter pet, consider participating in this year’s event on Saturday, August 19, at a shelter near you!
