Having recently celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary, Lois and B.E. Thompson began their time together during a game of hide-and-seek at the age of just six years. The Cleburne, Texas residents are now an example that many of us wish to emulate – one of long-term togetherness with our partners.

Now at the age of 98, Lois explained in an interview with 11 Alive, “I would do it all over again.” B.E. now suffers from the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s disease, but Lois remains by his bedside, continuing to care for him. They married at the age of 18. The game of hide-and-seek happened just 12 years prior when Lois said, “I hid behind the dresser. Somehow he hid there too and he kissed me on the cheek and asked me if I’d be his girl. And I was from then on.”

They got married in 1937, before World War II, during the Great Depression. Because of the fact that photography was considered a luxury at the time, they don’t even have wedding pictures from their special day. But, Lois explained that although there were plenty of bumps along the way, they always managed to show love for one another, and she believes that’s what’s kept them together. “He never left without telling me he loved me,” she said.

Their love has seen them raise four children, have 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grands, and seven great-greats! During the interview, Lois left B.E.’s bedside only for a moment to celebrate their anniversary party with family but returned quickly saying, “I’ll be right here. I’m not going anywhere.” Though many skeptics will say it’s practically impossible to continue to love someone for 80 years, Lois says, “I love him more. And I’m not ready to see the end.”
