On April 15th, Emilee Plaayer posted a photo of herself kneeling on a soccer field for her stepdaughter Maelyn’s game. On the back of her shirt, the words “Step Mom” were written above the little girl’s number of 37. Next to Emilee was her husband, who wore the same jersey with “Daddy” written on it. But the support for the young girl at her big game didn’t end there. Her “Mommy” (Clara Cazeau) and “Step Dad” (Alex) were also present.
Emilee proudly posted the snapshot to show that co-parenting can be harmonious for all involved. “Because of us, I will never believe co-parenting can’t work! I KNOW through experience it CAN WORK! Choose to do what’s best for your child and everything will just fall into place,” Emilee’s caption reads.
After the post went viral, reaching over 83,000 shares, the Huffington Post spoke with Emilee about the simple, yet meaningful photo. She explains that all members of the family surrounding 4-year-old Maelyn have worked to put their differences aside in the hopes of setting a good example for her. “We also go to each other’s birthday dinners with their own families, we do holidays together, we go to one another’s houses, we are literally always doing things together.” Clara said.
Though spending a lot of time with one’s family might not be for everyone, maybe someone will see the photo and be inspired to mend a bridge within their co-parenting unit.
