Coach Inc. Changes Their Name to Tapestry
“Coach Inc. Is Dead. Long Live Tapestry.” The New York Times proclaims as the title of their new article detailing how and why the recognizable brand Coach has renamed themselves Tapestry. In a nutshell, Coach has acquired Stuart Weitzman and Kate Spade and wants their new corporate name to reflect a broader spectrum of branding.
NPR quotes the company’s chief executive, Victor Luis, as saying, “We searched for a name to reflect [our] values while also expressing the cultural diversity of our people and our brands for today and tomorrow. In Tapestry, we found a name that speaks to creativity, craftsmanship, authenticity and inclusivity on a shared platform and values. As such, we believe that Tapestry can grow with our portfolio and with our current brands as they extend into new categories and markets.”
MarketWatch.com only semi-jokingly writes that Twitter users don’t seem too keen on the name, but Carole King fans are OK with the change. Those who are devoted to collecting Coach bags shouldn’t worry – their iconic logo and name will stay the same when it comes to the brand. This change only impacts the corporate name and a change from the stock ticker symbol of COH to TPR. So if you’re wondering if the “C” pattern Coach bags will change to a “T,” they definitely will not.
