Comal County Chilifest is Hotter Than a Two-Dollar Pistol

If you have been itching to get your hands on some of the hottest chili in Texas, head to Comal County’s Chilifest Chili Cook Off on Saturday, April 2, 2016. The cook off begins at 10 a.m., and the winner will be announced at 3 p.m. If you think your chili has enough oomph to compete with that of the chili masters of Comal County, you will need to register by 5 p.m. on March 24, 2016. Prizes will be awarded for chili that has good flavor, meat texture, blend of spices, aroma, and color. Prizes will also be awarded for showmanship.

In addition to some fantastic chili, the event will host the Lil’ Miss Chili Pepper Pageant. If you know a little girl who is a  Comal County student in kindergarten or first grade, enter her by March 28, 2016 to be in the running for Lil’ Miss Chili Pepper. She will need a pretty Easter-type dress, to incorporate a chili pepper as an accessory to her outfit, and will be singing the theme song to Frozen as a part of her talent act. A maximum of 25 girls will be accepted into the pageant.

Pageants not your thing? No worries, where there’s chili, there’s mutton bustin’ (or at least there should be!) The deadline to enter the Chilifest Mutton Bustin’ contest is March 28. 2016 and the champion will receive a buckle. Riders must be under 65 lbs., be between the ages of three and ten, must be donned in long sleeves, pants, closed toed shoes, and a wear a helmet.

The Comal County Chilifest will also feature an Antique Tractor Pull, a Pig Wrangler contest, stick horse races, and washer pitchin’. There is no better way to spend an afternoon than at the local fairgrounds with some good chili and fun activities for both kiddos and grown folk.
