The Castro Colonies Living History Center is one of the original 1840s residences of Castroville, also known as the Biry-Ahr Haus. It’s been fully restored and is home to both live and electronic visuals of the town’s history. For its part in Founder’s Day, the center will host live, interactive demonstrations, as well as provide the assistance of docents to guide visitors through the home.

Similarly, the St. Louis Catholic Church, established upon arrival of new settlers to Castroville, will be sharing stories on the original stone church and the existing structure, which was constructed in 1873. To complement this, narrative will also be provided about the Moye Center, which is recognized as the original home of the Sisters of Divine Providence in the U.S.

The Castroville Chamber of Commerce will provide information and prizes at Historic Houston Square to those youth who successfully complete the passport tour. Visitors and locals alike will appreciate the quarterly Market Trail Day which is also taking place on Founder’s Day, together with a selection of food trucks and musical entertainment. Designed to celebrate and share the tremendous history that lives on in this Lone Star State settlement, Founder’s Day is open to everyone! The city anticipates a great turnout.
