This Company Creates Survival Pods for Tsunami Survival

In a video uploaded by AJ+ this week on Facebook, a woman is shown getting into a small orange orb with two seats and a harness. She isn’t strapping into a fun theme park ride, she’s showing the camera how she plans on surviving a possible tsunami along the Pacific Northwest coast.

Fearing that an earthquake could erupt at any moment and create a massive tsunami, the Survival Capsule company says that they’ve developed a device that could potentially save lives. They boast that their models are designed by aircraft engineers and are tested under tough conditions, though of course, none have been tested in an actual tsunami. Some models provide space for two adults while others can hold up to 10 people.

The capsules are meant to be mounted in a home/garage or even a business. On the Survival Capsule website, they write, “It also provides warmth, safety, and shelter during the initial post-disaster period before rescue crews and relief workers have arrived on the scene.” Customers can even add on surround sound speakers or choose a different color other than bright orange.

While some people are eager to buy the chance of survival, others see it as unlikely to work and preying on fear. “Strapped in also does not guarantee you will not suffer major injury as you are jostled around. That chest harness does nothing for the limbs or head,” Rebecca Satterlee writes on Facebook as one of the many criticisms of the device.
