According to local lore, Concan was named after the Mexican card game, “coon can.” Concan is the perfect getaway destination. In the Winter months, Concan is perfect for hunting deer, doves, and wild turkeys. The summer months are perfect for enjoying the clear waters of the Frio River, which is a perfect location to swim, fish, and tube.

Concan, Texas is widely known for their bird watching and their Bechtol-Russell designed 18-hole golf course. The Club at ConCan Golf course has an amazing scenery with beautiful rolling hills. Enjoy the difficulty of the course, while in a relaxing and picturesque scenery.

Residents would recommend stopping in at the House Pasture Cattle Company Restaurant. The restaurant is known for their delicious home-style cookin’! People have raved about their country fried steak and country fried chicken.

Neals Lodges, located on the Frio River, is a highly favored place to stay and is right next to Neal’s Café. The Café has a great family atmosphere with exceptional food. The activities are endless here. Enjoy horseback riding, tubing the Frio River, bird watching, golfing, bat flight tours, Neal’s hayrides, hunting, fishing, Neal’s water slide, and Joe Jimmy’s. Dancing lessons, fine win, and cold beer can be found at Joe Jimmy’s, along with a Diamondback Rattlesnake.

Even though Concan is generally a quiet city, it does not mean that there aren’t events that take place. The Rio Frio Fest is a huge music festival that takes place annually in Concan in mid-March, showcasing a number of Texas musicians, great food, and the Frio River.
