For those that like to gamble but haven’t yet found that just-right location to do so, you can now take a cruise from the port at Galveston, Texas to get your gamble on! Leaving twice daily from Wednesdays through Saturdays, and once on Sundays, the ship called Jacks or Better Casino will take you out to sea, where you can gamble, have a beverage or two, eat to your heart’s content, and even karaoke!

Just arriving in the Galveston Yacht Basin this month, the cruise out to 9.1 miles from shore takes its guests into federal waters where they can partake in sports betting, table games, and slot machines. In an interview with WFAA 8 (a local ABC affiliate), Jacks or Better Casino General Manager, Rocky Herrin, explained, “They get to go out there and laugh, let their hair down, gamble,…Things you really can’t get in a normal casino.” Formerly known as the Aransas Queen and operating out of Aransas Pass, the company relocated the ship to Galveston due to the effects of strong wind conditions. In making the move, the company offered the opportunity for staff to transfer with them, prior to posting for new positions in Galveston.

Tickets to take the cruise have been set at $15 (not including the cost of gambling) and each trip lasts approximately six hours. A day cruise departs from Galveston at 11 am, while the evening cruise leaves port at 6:30 pm. The Sunday cruise departs at 1 p.m. Recognized as the oldest port in Texas, the Port of Galveston had no prior dedicated casino cruises until now, however, it continues to have two major cruise lines that operate there, with substantial casinos onboard (in addition to their other attractions) requiring pre-booking for considerably longer cruise trips. As with the Jacks or Better Casino, they too operate outside Territorial Waters, but do not return to port after a day out on the high seas playing high stakes!
