Corpus Christi Police Report Only 9 DWI Arrests on NYE This Year

KIIITV reports that the Corpus Christi Police Department only had to make nine DWI-related arrests on New Year’s Eve this year. It appears that partiers used free cab rides and a free towing service to help to lower the number of drunk drivers on the road.

“Green-N-Go Cabs said they gave out 258 free cab rides with about 800 passengers. Owner Dan Stiefel said there were larger groups riding together than in previous years,” KIIITV states. And Apollo Towing says they gave away 27 free tows this year, more than ever before.

Having under 10 drunk driving arrests to start out the New Year is a bit of a victory for the city since KRIS TV reported that on New Year’s Eve of 2015, 15 arrests were made. After that night, police even created “…New Years Eve survival cheat sheets that have several options for a sober ride home.”

On New Year’s Eve 2016, the Caller Times writes that there were nine DWI arrests of people on their first offense, but there were an additional three arrests for DWIs that were double the legal limit. Fifty-two car collisions were reported, one of which was confirmed to be due to a drunk driver. Thankfully, it looks like the beginning of 2018 started out more smoothly.
