“We came outside and we saw three cop cars and there was a cow coming down the street,” Jeanette Dooley told Click2Houston. She witnessed the strange sight last week in her Spring, Texas neighborhood. The cow in question was on the run from the officers after escaping a truck delivering the animal to the Fisher Ham and Meat Co. Apparently the steer decided it wasn’t his time to be slaughtered!

Police surrounded the cow, but they were unable to corral it. The incident ended up taking hours. “He’s trotting down the road you know, and about three cop cars tried to block him in, he would trot right around the next one it would come up, it was comical,” neighbor Dawson Rosas told the news.

Eventually, deputies shot the steer with tranquilizers.

Houstonians commented on KPRC’s report with varying reactions on Facebook. Some people wished the cow would receive a pardon from its future since he went to such extremes to get it, while others wondered where a cowboy was when they needed one. “An hour standoff and no one could leave their house. OH PLEASE!!!” Louise Berglund wrote.

Despite its escapades, the cow’s slaughter is still scheduled to take place though the meat company will have to wait a full month due to the tranquilizer injections.
