Would You Dare to Set Foot on This Cracking Glass Bridge?
Walking across the lengthy (about 873 feet) glass-bottom bridge in the East Taihang Mountains requires a strong stomach and a lot of trust for the architecture since it hangs about 3,870 feet in the air along the edge of the beautiful mountains. But this particular glass bottom bridge has recently gone viral for more than its breathtaking view. Videos of visitors walking along the path and freaking out have spread around the internet quickly. And who wouldn’t freak out when the pathway cracks beneath your feet?
The most popular clip seen in CGTN’s video shows a man (a tour guide judging from the flag he’s carrying) falling to his knees while yelling in fear when the glass seems to splinter and makes an awful crackling sound. But according to Mashable, everything is going as planned. In fact, the man seems to break into a smile eventually. That’s because a few panels in the glass were made by engineers to look as if they were going to fall apart under visitors’ feet!
Mashable says that the East Taihang district administration wrote a letter of apology to those who have been frightened by the fake breaking glass, saying they are “…very sorry that people got frightened,” but “…they don’t intend to replace those shattered panels with regular ones, because they hope people will want to come and experience them.”
