Man Loses 50 Pounds and His Dog Doesn’t Recognize Him

By  |

In a YouTube video uploaded by Eric Anderson, North Carolina man Shane Godfrey is shown sitting on a bench with his family after he was released from the hospital. Godfrey dropped 50 pounds while receiving medical care from the flu and enduring difficult complications from the illness that almost lead him to his death. Since he lost weight so rapidly away from his home, his dog, Willie had no idea what was going on. Willie certainly couldn’t guess that his best friend would look different when he returned.

When Godfrey was finally able to return home, Willie was noticeably confused. It wasn’t until he came up to take a sniff of his own owner that he recognized him and became overjoyed by their reunion. The sweet video (seen below) has gone viral across media platforms.

PetMD says that dogs actually prefer the scent of the owners, and the smell gives them joy even when the person isn’t present. They write that with their test subjects, the “…odor of a familiar human signaled a probable, pleasurable outcome.” It just goes to show dog owners that their pets truly do love them on a deep level. Of course, dog owners probably already knew that.
