Doug Sahm (1941 – 1999) is a country music and rock icon, and his sound is still timeless. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was the leader of the rock band Sir Douglas Quintet during the 60s. He was known for being able to play multiple musical instruments — mandolin, guitar, violin. Considered a child prodigy of sorts, he joined Hank Williams during a performance when he was only 11-years-old. In the 70s, Sahm was signed onto Atlantic Records and released his first solo album, “Doug Sahm and Band.”

The song “She’s About a Mover” was recorded by the Sir Douglas Quintet in 1965 and was a hit on the charts and even more well-known locally. It’s been covered by many other artists since then and has been featured on numerous soundtracks over the years.

In this rare video from the 1975 Austin City Limits music festival, Sahm can be seen giving a stellar performance of “She’s About a Mover.” As the YouTube video description points out, this performance “came after Doug had temporarily retired the Sir Douglas name, but features original member Augie Meyer along with musical compadres Martin Steitle, John Barber, Steve McDaniels and Harry Hess.”

Check out the video and enjoy a classic performance from the music legend.
