The icehouse experience is something every Texan and visitor to this state should try at least once. One example in the heart of the Hill Country is the Wild Ass “Hey” Barn, located at 101 Rowland Lane between Kerrville and Ingram. Originally opened in August 2017, this nearly year-old establishment can be found within the Blue Gar Complex on the banks of the Guadalupe River. Open Wednesday through Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m., this place is the ideal spot for a casual afternoon into evening with friends and family.

A full food menu is available for appetizers, lunch, and dinner to be enjoyed inside with air conditioning or outside on the patio with a view. Happy Hours are from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and include half-price appetizers. Fridays bring around a mean Catfish Special, as well as Open Mic Night. Beer and wine are served here, and local musicians keep the beat moving with live music every Saturday.

Enjoy the breeze

If you’d like to spend more than a few hours soaking in the atmosphere, tent camping and RV hookups are nearby options and a good way to partake in the myriad of events onsite, including chili cook-offs and crawfish boils. An upcoming must-see is the Chalk Festival on July 1st, a competitive showing sure to be more than colorful! Or bring along your fishing pole to see what tugs the line after lurking under Crawfish Island. Event rental and catering allow the funky décor to be all yours for a time, or join the rest of the regulars, perhaps by sliding up to the bar and perching atop two joined giant cowboy boots, affixed to a boat seat. Stay for an afternoon or a vacation at this beautiful family-friendly property of over seven acres, and enjoy everything about being in ‘the barn!’
