Located at the iconic 11th St. Cowboy Bar in Bandera, Texas, the Cowboy Mardi Gras is sure to leave a lasting impression for all the folks who decide to join in on the cajun-inspired celebration.

The celebration will take place Jan. 28 – 30 at “the biggest little bar in Texas,” which has played host to the event for many years. Among the weekend’s festivities will be he championship gumbo cookout, more live music than you can stomp your boots at, and an Adult Cowboy Mardi Gras Costume Contest. Which, we can only imagine what that will entail, but it sounds better than breaking a tooth on a baby Jesus inside the king cake.

Among performers being hosted at this year’s event are the CMA and Grammy Award winners LeRoy Thomas & the Zydeco Roadrunners, and Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band. The event promises floats, cajun food, horses & cowboys and plenty of beads being thrown around for reasons unbeknownst to us at Texas Hill Country.

So if there were any reason to visit the self-proclaimed Cowboy Capital, this might be it. New Orleans may be a day’s drive out East, but right here in the Hill Country we have the option to do things our way.
