The design and vibe are of a curated portal to leisure and luxury. Inspired by two figures of the 1920s, one on the international scene and one a Boerne local, the combined concepts of innovation and vision are present. Pablo Picasso became known for expanding the world beyond what had been accepted; Arno Richter also embraced change, such as transportation, by opening Boerne’s first garage for automobiles. The Shops at 153 Main are restored with a spotlight on the ideals of these men, the needs of the community, and with the hopes of another 100 years strong.
The Shops at 153 Main include retail stores, a unique 2nd floor outdoor experience for tourists to get above the bustle of Main Street, family-friendly games, and two charming settings to indulge in delicious drinks and gourmet vittles, plus complimentary Wi-Fi. The entrance from Main Street features an architecturally framed walkway that leads to three stunning shops: UpTown Chic Boutique & Gifts, Plaza Taxco, and The Boerne Bookshop, and to a speakeasy-inspired wine and beer bar, Richter Cork & Keg. Sit for a spell with a drink or continue exploring, beverage in hand. Texas and international wineries as well as breweries are featured, with a feel of Prohibition and bootlegging intrigue. Tasty comestibles in the form of reimagined bar food and tapas are available here for lunch and dinner. The Shops at 153 Main even has your sweet tooth covered! Richter Bakhaus & Curbside is home to freshly baked breads and treats, plus satisfying coffee creations. Don’t miss out on their famous Flynn Rolls or the unique muffin/donut hybrid dubbed the “Duffin.”

Upstairs is home to Richter Tavern, a unique 1920s industrial-themed bar and restaurant featuring custom cocktails and margaritas, gourmet appetizers, and a seasonal, daily menu brimming with local ingredients. Try the grilled pork belly, the Gitmo Sandwich, or a specialty pizza! The incredible floor-to-ceiling windows, and a covered, dog-friendly outdoor patio make this an incredibly atmospheric spot. For history buffs, take a moment to marvel at original images, artifacts, and tools unearthed during the site renovation, and the incredible antique saloon bar—this huge fixture has lived on Boerne Main Street for over 150 years, and it’s only been refurbished three times. It’s widely considered to be the second oldest bar in Texas. Visit Mike, the talented and often kilted bartender, to hear a few of its stories.
