Quintanilla was known as the “Queen of Tejano Music.” As March marks the anniversary of her untimely death, we still remember the music which crossed over mainstream America and left its mark on many generations. She was born April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas. “She won six of the 15 categories at the 1995 Tejano Music Awards and received a Grammy for best Mexican/American album in 1994,” states ibtimes.com.

Her life is also the subject of the movie Selena (1997) starring Jennifer Lopez. Having met her through a friend, you knew you were in the presence of a star in how she showed genuine kindness and interest in helping others with advice on their dreams. An American dream come true, but sadly cut short March 31, 1995.
