According to The Statesman, the director of the Austin Film Commission Brian Gannon confirmed “Fear the Walking Dead” is filming in the Austin area following fan speculation and photos showing a secret film set at Dell Diamond in Round Rock earlier this month.

“We’re grateful AMC moved the production in the Austin area,” he said in an interview with The Statesman. “What’s great about a TV series is it keeps our crew employed for long periods of time. We want productions in town generating money for the local economy and not moving to Atlanta or Kentucky.”

According to a City of Austin permit, Stalwart Films will be shooting scenes for BATS in City of Austin Right of Way. Filming took place on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. The permit states, “Because our show takes place in a post-apocalyptic backdrop, we hope to intermittently hold traffic on S. Pleasant Valley Road between Springville Lane and William Cannon for very short periods on the shoot day only with the help of APD officers.” The production is filming in southeast Austin at Shady Cedar Drive and Onion Creek Drive from Nov. 28 through Dec. 1.

According to Wikipedia, “Fear the Walking Dead” is an American post-apocalyptic horror drama television series created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson, that premiered on AMC on August 23, 2015. It is a companion series and prequel to “The Walking Dead,” which is based on the comic book series of the same name.

The series follows a dysfunctional, blended family comprised of high school guidance counselor Madison Clark, her English teacher boyfriend Travis Manawa, her daughter Alicia, her drug addict son Nick, Travis’s son from a previous marriage, Chris, Chris’ mother Liza Ortiz, and others who join their group at the onset of the apocalypse. They must reinvent themselves, learning new skills and adopting new attitudes in order to survive as civilization collapses around them.
