What used to be the country in the Hill Country often has become more visible to the highway and urban sprawl. In the case of Freiheit Country Store, this movement benefits both burger lovers and the little wood hut which was established in 1889. This Texas establishment calls itself a burger joint with German heritage, so map yourself to 2157 FM 1101 New Braunfels, TX 78130 for a tasty meal. Try the Zweibel Cheeseburger, the Cody Reimer Special, or a slice of the homemade Samoa pie. Restaurant opens at 11:00 a.m. daily, closing at 3 p.m. on Mondays, 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 8 p.m. on Sunday. Plenty of tables for all!

Freiheit means ‘freedom’ in German, and the area has roots beginning in 1891. It served the blacklands farming area 3½ miles northeast of New Braunfels. In 1910, Alonzo Nolte organized the Freiheit Bowling Club, which lent its name to the community. Visit this historical restaurant and gathering space off I-35 for your fill of good times and a happy tummy. After raving to your friends and family afterward, someone might ask you ‘Where the hell is Freiheit?” Well, they sell t-shirts for that. And, of course, it’s in German! Put this place down as a go-to when a hamburger craving takes over, then stay awhile to listen to the music and enjoy a drink.
