Firefighter Dad Gets Huge Father’s Day Surprise from His 2 Families

There are few firemen in the New York City area who don’t have a story about that fateful September day in 2001. Lieutenant Larry Mack never intended to be a hero and merely did what he thought was best.

Larry Mack and Vincent ‘Vinny’ Halloran were best friends their entire lives. From football games to school years to family life, the two men were both FDNY lieutenants. When September 11, 2001, happened, however, Vinny lost his life, and Larry did what he thought was best for Vinny’s family: he stepped up and became a father figure.

In this video, Larry is surprised by Good Morning America in the firehouse to receive a surprising and heartwarming tailgating session at work. Taken completely off guard, Larry watches a video of both his children and Vinny’s children speaking to Larry’s character and how wonderful of a father he is to all of his kids, biological and not.

Larry Mack doesn’t have two families, he has one extended and loving family unit that includes Vincent’s five children, widow, and Larry’s own family. He has done an incredible job stepping up to the plate for his best friend, and he deserves this surprise and ten thousand more for his love, care, and compassion.
