On Saturday, April 18, 2020, the City of Lubbock will be the scene of a strange kind of funeral. In these challenging times for personal and business interests due to COVID-19 and quarantine measures, many people are wondering what will happen from one day to the next. While practicing social distancing and obeying shelter-in-place orders, we’re all working together to support one another and our local business entities, trying to make it through with as little difficulty as possible. However, in doing so, we’ve recognized a few modern-day truths. One is that the American small businessman has it tough. So the “Funeral for the Lubbock Small Businessman” is being held in West Texas.

Organizers of this unique and historical event are planning the opportunity for people to pay their respects to those who are struggling with their small business. As a peaceful protest, the Funeral for the Lubbock Small Businessman is part of an awakening many have experienced. It recognizes that the local individual or family grocer, convenience store, health food business, and mechanic (among others) are finding it difficult to stay afloat in today’s precarious economy.
