On December 7, fans of the Texas troubadour we’ve all come to know as the King of Country Music got just one more taste of why he richly deserves that title. George Strait released a new track entitled “Código,” celebrating the namesake tequila brand in which he’s a partner and fan. That news had more than a few fans toasting this latest creation.

Co-writing the song with his son Bubba as well as his long-time friend and collaborator Dean Dillon, Strait incorporated his traditional vibe with the sounds of an accordion and fiddle to produce a southwestern swinger his country fans will love. It’s the kind of song you could picture yourself singing along to (loudly) with friends, after a couple of rounds of the drink itself! Give a listen to the new song below, released on the George Strait YouTube channel via Universal Music Group.

The first new sounds to come from Strait since “Cold Beer Conversation” was released in 2015, “Código” came out just ahead of his recent sold-out Las Vegas shows, and just in time for Christmas! His fans will always treasure his box sets (the most recent of which was “Strait Out of the Box: Part 2” released in 2016), but new music is often just as good as the many number-one hits he’s produced. Speaking of which, it’s been confirmed that a new album release entitled “Honky Tonk Time Machine” is scheduled for 2019! Just like this latest song says, “A little sip and you’re ready to roll,” just a taste of his tunes will get your toe tapping and have you cranking it up!

Have you tried a sip of Código? If so, how does it compare to the song? Better as a tune or a drink? Or perhaps the perfect combo? Let us know!
