Texas country singer Granger Smith and his wife Amber Smith have sadly lost their 3-year-old son as a result of a heartbreaking accident. In a statement to the media, a representative for the family stated, “It was a tragic drowning at home.” The tragedy should serve as a warning to keep children safe while swimming this summer.

Smith made the heart-wrenching announcement on Thursday, June 6, 2019, saying: “I have to deliver unthinkable news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life. Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father.”

As any parent can imagine, Smith reflected on how much he loved his son, saying, “Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, I cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this.” Smith’s wife shared the sentiments, and both parents posted photos with their beloved toddler. It was reported that the family placed a call to 911 on June 5, 2019. EMS and the Fire Unit from Williamson County, Texas, responded.

In lieu of gifts, the family is asking for donations to Dell Children’s Medical Center in River’s name. The Smiths also have a 7-year-old daughter named London and a 5-year-old son named Lincoln.
