Governor Greg Abbott is suffering from 2nd and 3rd degree burns, which he sustained in an accident involving scalding hot water on Thursday, July 7, 2016. The Governor was spending time with his family in Wyoming when he sustained burns to both of his legs. Govenor Abbott did not go into detail about how he received the burns, but assures the public that he has “overcome tougher challenges” in tweet on Sunday, July 10, 2016.

Governor Abbott’s injuries happened just before he was informed of the shootings in Dallas. According to MSN.com, Abbott was in the process of being released when he was contacted by a top aide to inform him of the news. His injuries did not stop Abbott from holding a press conference on Friday, and he did not inform the public of his injuries at that time, as his primary focus was addressing the Dallas events. However, because of his injuries, the Governor will likely be missing the Republican National Convention.
