Are you intrigued by the competitive and grueling job of fishing in the Gulf of Mexico but can’t imagine journeying out into the water every day? Jason Dinger of Morgan City, Louisiana, has a fun solution for you – a board game centered around captaining shrimp boats.

Houma Today writes that Dinger is a former Army corporal and a former shrimper who loves playing games with his family. He came up with his unique idea around midnight while dreaming, and as soon as he awoke, he began filling notebooks with ideas on how the game would flow.

According to the Captains of the Gulf Facebook page, “Players can upgrade their boats by adding specialized fishing licenses, crew members, and boat upgrades that give special powers and bonuses as they try to out-think their opponents; managing their money, fuel supply, and actions to dominate fishing locations.”

Two to four players of all ages can play Captains of the Gulf, but since strategy plays such an important part in the game, older players are better suited. The game is still undergoing some adjustments after numerous playtests revealed some changes were needed, but eventually, Dinger hopes to acquire the interest of a company who will produce the game while maintaining his original vision.
